Julian Spagnuolo,
Data Scientist
Julian joined Granite Bio in July 2026 as a Data Scientist within the Translational Science team to support the progression of programmes in early clinical development. In this role, he focuses on the end-to-end lifecycle of clinical, pharmacodynamic, and biomarker datasets, applying advanced statistical methods to generate actionable insights for first-in-human studies. He is responsible for establishing robust ETL pipelines, overseeing data transfer specifications across internal systems and external partners, and ensuring rigorous data management and compliance for Phase I trials. He brings over ten years of experience engineering multi-omics pipelines and integrating translational datasets to advance immunology and early drug development. Possessing a well-grounded knowledge of complex high-dimensional biological systems, his background represents a cohesive blend of academic and biotech experience.
Prior to joining Granite Bio, Julian held senior data science and bioinformatics roles within the biotech sector, including positions at Scailyte, Matterhorn Biosciences, and Cradle. His industry work has prominently featured accelerating clinical data analysis, leveraging machine learning to identify response-predictive biomarkers for patient stratification in cancer trials, and predict T-cell engagement. This expertise is underpinned by an extensive five-year post-doctoral fellowship in computational immunology at the University of Basel's Department of Biomedicine. He completed his PhD in Biochemistry at Massey University in New Zealand, where he investigated extracytoplasmic stress responses.
